GVARA influencing Product Standards
What are product Standards?
Product standards used in the Gas Valves and Regulators Industry are technical specifications and guidelines that define the characteristics of a product to ensure quality, safety and performance. They are used to ensure products meet minimum safety requirements and are fit for their intended purpose.
The Standards are developed by governmental regulatory bodies and industry organisations, and are essential for promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.
There are ISO (International Standards Organisation), CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and national versions.
Product Standards and why are they important?
Standards are not Laws but are often referenced in Laws and in conventions/agreements such as ADR, so all manufacturers are required to produce products to those Standards, so they are in conformance with local and international law.
What Standards bodies GVARA engages with and why is this important?
GVARA engages with the ISO Standards body using its approved liaison status and also has representation on European, CEN (European Committee for Standardisation) and other National Standard bodies such as BSI (British Standards Institute) and DIN (German Institute for National Standardisation).
